Understanding Malware

AIONCLOUD is cloud based web security service which provides protection against malware. But what is malware? Is it a virus? Is it a bug? Or is it just a combination of everything that tries to infiltrate and destroy someone’s system? Malware is known to be code that harms computer users which includes virus, worm, spyware, Trojan horse, etc. Sometimes these code can react differently in other situations such as rootkits, but understanding hostile events toward your systems can be called as malware. Here are some of malware examples: 1. Computer Virus Unlike Trojan horse, which originally runs as a single executable file, computer virus refers to malware that replicates itself, infects a specific object (file, boot sector, etc.), and runs when the target is executed. 2. Trojan Horse One of malware that disguised as a normal program. The origin of the name comes from the Trojan horse of the Trojan War. Trojan horses is accountable for more than 35% of malware type ratios, a very high percentage of viruses and worms that are not visible in the graph. 3. Spyware Malicious spyware refers to computer software. They are secretly installed on the computer without the user's consent, collecting important personal information, etc. and transmitting them to the attacker's server. 4. Worm Unlike regular viruses, worms can propagate copies themselves using a network. They also use self-replication to corrupt networks and maliciously encrypt files. Some worms also spread malicious backdoor programs. Propagating over the network causes excessive network traffic. If the worm spreads to a worldwide network, serious slowdown or paralysis may be a concern. Worm spreading backdoors can cause additional damage such as mass production of zombie PCs. 5. Fake Vaccine A fake vaccine is an illegal vaccination that masquerades as a real antivirus program and maliciously receives money from a user. In fact, such vaccines do not have the ability to detect and remediate malware, and even if they do not have malware, they force the user to pay for it. If you do not have any related knowledge such as computer, it is easy to be easily damaged and you need more precautions. As you can see, the example above are only a fraction of malware. Next, we will have a look how AIONCLOUD can protect your website from malware.
